From the moment I arrived at Kindred Spirit Mini Festival 2025 something shifted. That familiar feeling of coming home — five years of community woven into every hug, every knowing smile, every moment of connection that only exists when you've been showing up consistently for each other long enough to build something authentic.
I found myself on the dancefloor — right at the front, which for a photographer is usually the last place you'd find me. But the energy hit different. No nerves, no self-consciousness, no feeling of being seen in the wrong way — just pure joy rippling through a community I belong to. Camera in hand, heart wide open.
From my experience, the Northern Rivers conscious festival scene is really unlike anything else in Australia. Of course it could be my own frequency has changed along my journey, but Kindred Spirit is definitely helping the shift in consciousness. As a conscious festival photographer, Northern Rivers is filled with magic. Gatherings like this are the reason I keep doing what I do. There is a rawness and authenticity emanating from this community that I believe needs to be captured and shown to the world. So I snap away!
Outside the energy was just as electric. People dancing freely under the open sky — and somewhere along the way the photographer became part of the story too. Eyes lighting up, arms opening wide — their photographer had arrived and they wanted to be captured in their joy. That's the epic magic of shooting your own people.
I drove home that night with my cup completely full. I didn't work too hard, but that medicine of genuine belonging damn hit the spot. That's what community does to our soul. That's the essence of why we continue to show up.
